Tanith Yates' painting technique echoes her experience as a ceramic sculptural artist. Her Icelandic series – with its use of underpainting, layers of color, bold brush strokes and heavy textures – explores how the contradiction of structural depth and translucency can exist together in harmony. Fascinated by the space between real and abstract, movement within still environments, and the polarity between light and dark, she uses high-density oils and full spectrum color to capture Iceland’s dramatic landscape.
